Quote from Aesthetic Programming by Winnie Soon, Geoff Cox, P45. "Furthermore, and given that programming, like other forms of writing, performs actions, it presents itself as a way to reconceive politics too: not simply writing or speaking, arguing, or protesting in public, but also demonstrating the ability to modify the technical processes through which the action is performed, in recognition of the ways in which power and control are now structured at the level of infrastructure."
The problem is that most creative coders don't recognize or use the power they hold. Ever been to a website to download something and there were multiple download buttons that directed you to an ad? That's how much power coding has.
After reading Aesthetic Programming, I wanted to send this message of power to designers and creative coders. I sketched some ideas that I could use to show motion with codes in p5js.
The text will be made from dots, and each dot represents a coder. The dots will create the text "WE SET ACTION" in red. If the program captures a sound (action) like clapping, the dots will become larger with different colours. If there is no sound, the text will be made with only one colour (red). I hope that by creating this project, I can show how code as a medium can influence and bring power to people. But also to show how those who create with code hold immense power over their users by controlling the infrastructure that they navigate through.
